Shopping on Boulevard Haussmann
The Boulevard Haussmann was created by Haussmann following Napoleon III’s decision to transform Paris with wider roads and streets (see History of the Opéra Garnier).
Its construction was started between 1850 and 1872, the Boulevard Haussmann was not completed until 1926, after the death of Prefect Haussmann.
2kms long, it connects the crossroad of the Boulevard des Italiens and the Boulevard Montmartre to the Avenue Friedland (overlooking the Place de l’Étoile).
Despite its impressive length and the grandeur of the cut stone buildings that adorn it, Parisians and tourists mostly appreciate this boulevard for the department stores that sit behind the Palais Garnier.
